DCCC Chairman Steve Israel’s Statement on Medicare’s 46th Anniversary
DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement in advance of Saturday’s 46th anniversary of Medicare being signed into law on July 30, 1965:
“House Republicans are on a crusade to make this 46th birthday for Medicare the very last one. From a budget that ends Medicare to a plan that would ‘Cut, Cap and Kill’ Medicare, House Republicans have now voted three times to pull the plug on seniors’ health care so they can protect Big Oil and billionaires.
“When Medicare started only half of all seniors had health care coverage. Today, virtually all do. But House Republicans want to end that.
“The American people have sent a clear message at town halls and in polls that House Republicans are making the wrong choice: voters want Medicare to be around for its 47th birthday.”
