DCCC Chairman Steve Israel’s Statement on Social Security’s 76th Anniversary
DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement in advance of Sunday’s 76th anniversary of Social Security being signed into law on August 14, 1935:
“For Seventy-six years seniors and people with disabilities have depended on the Social Security they earned. Today, as families and seniors are facing difficult economic times, House Republicans are again pushing a risky scheme to end Social Security as we know it.
“If Republicans are successful in gambling Social Security on Wall Street, one stock market tumble could wipe out seniors’ retirement.
“Seniors who have paid into Social Security through a lifetime of hard work deserve to celebrate the next anniversary of Social Security. Democrats will fight back against Republicans threatening to gamble Seniors’ retirement on Wall Street.”
