DCCC Chairman Steve Israel’s Statement on the End of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’

DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement on today’s historic end of the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy:

“Members of the Armed Forces sacrifice to protect and defend the freedoms and liberties of the American people, and I am proud that we are finally protecting and defending the rights of all our service men and women. Today marks the historic end of the discriminatory ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy and the beginning of an era where we will ensure equality for anyone who bravely and selflessly serves in America’s Armed Forces.

“The repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell will strengthen our nation, our military and end the days when thousands of dedicated service members were dismissed because of an outdated, discriminatory policy. Thanks to President Obama and House Democrats, we are keeping our promise of equality to all Americans. I am grateful to all our men and women in uniform for their unwavering dedication to defending our nation.”
