DCCC Chairman Steve Israel’s Statement on the First Year of the Republican Congress
DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement on today’s one year anniversary of the Republican Congress.
“The first year of this Republican Congress has been nothing but chronic chaos and the wrong priorities, so voters are fed up. Now, while Congress has a lot of work to do, Republicans are on vacation.
“From nearly shutting down the government so they could defund Planned Parenthood to ending Medicare so they could protect tax breaks for Big Oil, the Republican Congress has focused on an extreme Tea Party agenda instead of the middle class. Republicans playing games with a $1,000 payroll tax increase on already-tight family budgets is just the latest reminder of their wrong priorities.
“In the first year of this extremist Republican Congress, the American middle class and creating jobs have been House Republicans’ last priority.”
House Republicans’ 2011 agenda doesn’t reflect Americans’ priorities -- by the numbers:
14 Votes to repeal patient health care protections
10 Anti-Consumer votes
7 Votes to keep unnecessary subsidies for Big Oil companies
4 Votes to restrict women’s access to health care
3 Votes to end Medicare
3 Votes to roll back workers’ rights
0 Comprehensive jobs bills
