DCCC Statement on the 40th Anniversary of the King Assassination

DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement on the 40th Anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:

“Today, as our nation observes the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we honor his lifelong commitment to civil rights, equal justice, and economic empowerment.

“Dr. King’s dream was that every American would be judged on the content of their character and opportunity would exist for everyone regardless of race, ethnicity, or gender. Thanks to Dr. King’s leadership, America has made important strides in the last 40 years. Unfortunately, too many Americans still are losing their jobs, losing their health care, and unable to send their kids to college.

“The best way we can honor his memory is by redoubling our efforts to give every American a shot to live the American dream.”
