Doheny Says FBI, Grand Jury Investigation of Donor Doesn’t Concern Him
Matt Doheny on Thursday refused to return $2,000 in campaign donations from a New York Congressman under FBI investigation and facing a federal grand jury for potentially illegal campaign fundraising practices. Doheny claimed to be unconcerned by the ongoing FBI investigation, making the statement just hours before news broke that a federal grand jury has also been convened to investigate Grimm’s campaign.
“Does an FBI investigation into one of his donors really not bother Matt Doheny?” said Josh Schwerin, Northeast Press Secretary at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “By brushing a federal investigation aside, Matt Doheny is continuing to fund his own campaign with scandal tainted cash.”
Doheny ignores FBI probe of tainted cash. “‘As far as we are concerned, he has been cleared, and we are moving forward,’ Doheny said. While the Office of Congressional Ethics has absolved Grimm, an FBI probe is continuing, according to published reports.” [Press-Republican, 7/19/12]
