FACT CHECK: Ryan Falsely Claims Republicans Don’t Have Immigration Deadline

On ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos this morning, Budget Chairman Paul Ryan falsely claimed there is no deadline for accomplishing immigration reform, even as he admitted that an agreement is “clearly in doubt.”

However, earlier this week, NRCC Chairman Greg Walden admitted that House Republicans will have to wait to forge any agreement until after Tea Party primaries have been resolved.

NRCC Chairman Greg Walden: House Will Not Act on Immigration Reform “Until Deadlines Pass to Challenge Incumbent Lawmakers.” “The issue has been so divisive in his party that Representative Greg Walden of Oregon, who oversees House races as chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, said a measure may not be unveiled for months until deadlines pass to challenge incumbent lawmakers. ‘The point is that most of the primaries will probably have faded by then,’ Walden said.” [Bloomberg, 1/31/14]
