Greenberg Still Silent on Tea Party Shutdown – Too Busy Playing Politics

While Connecticut feels the pain of a Tea Party government shutdown, all Congressional Candidate Mark Greenberg is focused on is proving how good he is at playing politics.  Greenberg fired off an email Friday touting his newest campaign endorsements, yet he has stayed shamelessly silent on how he would have voted on the Tea Party’s reckless government shutdown – a mission that has been a key element of his irresponsible agenda.

“In the middle of government shutdown all Mark Greenberg is focused on is proving how good he is at playing politics – but he is still shamelessly silent about his support for this reckless Tea Party effort that has brought the government to a screeching halt,” said Marc Brumer of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Instead of firing off emails touting his political endorsements, Mark Greenberg should admit that he would have voted for this irresponsible plan that has shut down the government.  The focus of Mark Greenberg’s entire campaign is dismantling Obamacare and now that his mission has shutdown the government, he’s gone into hiding.”

BACKGROUND

Amidst Government Shutdown, Greenberg Campaign Email Touted Endorsement of Republican Town Committees. “Mark Greenberg, Republican candidate for Congress in Connecticut's 5th District, today announced that he has received the endorsements of the Bethlehem, Canaan and Morris RTCs.”  [Mark Greenberg for Congress Email, 10/4/13]

Greenberg Fundraised off of False Obamacare Claim. “In a recent fundraising letter, Greenberg said, ‘Congress and (Rep.) Elizabeth Esty have just been given an exemption from Obamacare. Are you as upset as I am?’ The letter said the IRS also received an exception from the ACA. ‘I want an exemption from Obamacare. You probably want an exemption too,’ the letter said. The reality is that neither Esty --  the 5th District Democratic congresswoman Greenberg seeks to unseat -- or employees of the IRS or Congress are exempt from the ACA.” [CT Mirror, 8/14/13]
