In What Universe Does Speaker Boehner’s Record Entitle Him to Another Crack?

According to Politico, Speaker Boehner told a close group of friends last night that he is planning on running for re-election.

Apparently House Speaker John Boehner thinks that record dysfunction and chaos, an unparalleled failure to pass meaningful legislation and unprecedented low approval ratings mean that he should run for re-election.

“What’s the next jawdropping idea from Speaker Boehner – the captain of the Titanic deserved another ship?” said Emily Bittner of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “The House Republicans’ failures under Speaker Boehner will take up an entire chapter in our history: stalled Sandy aid, no bipartisan farm bill, no momentum for immigration reform, no vote on gun violence prevention, no laws that will strengthen the middle class. For the past three years, Speaker Boehner has shown that he’s not listening to the American people – instead, he’s just trying to cling to his gavel.”

As the Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza wrote this week: “Either way, the conclusion is clear: The 112th Congress got less done than any Congress in more than six decades.”
