Janice Arnold-Jones Would Ask Seniors to Sacrifice Medicare

New Mexico voters beware — Republican Congressional candidate Janice Arnold-Jones (NM-01) is in line with Washington Republicans and supports their plan for massive cuts to Medicare forcing seniors to pay more, while protecting tax breaks for millionaires, Big Oil and companies that ship American jobs overseas. Arnold-Jones has already said she supports this controversial House Republican budget that the AARP warned would likely “simply increase costs for beneficiaries while removing Medicare's promise of secure health coverage -- a guarantee that future seniors have contributed to through a lifetime of hard work.”

“Washington Republicans would have a loyal ally in Janice Arnold-Jones to push massive cuts to Medicare while they protect tax breaks for millionaires, Big Oil and companies that ship American jobs overseas,” said Jesse Ferguson of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Janice Arnold-Jones would be just another vote for the extreme House Republicans agenda - repeatedly choosing tax breaks for millionaires and corporations over Mew Mexico’s seniors and middle class.”

Background

Janice Arnold-Jones Supported Ryan Budget. In May 2012, Arnold-Jones said she supported the Republican budget authored by Republican Budget Chairman Paul Ryan. Arnold-Jones said, “You know I am a legislator but I like Paul Ryan’s plan.” [Jim Villanucci Radio Show, 770 KKOB, Part 1, 6.11, 5/17/12]

Janice Arnold-Jones Opposed The Buffett Rule to Make Millionaires Pay their Fair Share. In 2012, Janice Arnold Jones called the Buffet rule the buffoon rule and criticized the proposal. She said “Let’s start with the Buffett Rule, although at my Saturday morning discussions they call it the buffoon rule...No one pays capital gains who does not save money. And yet you are supposed to think that anyone who pays capital gains is evil, is greedy.” [Torrance County Forum, Part 1 of 2, 2:09, 5/12/12]

Republicans Voted to Slash Medicare, Protect Tax Breaks for Millionaires, Encourage Companies to Ship Jobs Overseas. Republicans supported a budget that would end Medicare’s guaranteed benefit and provides people earning more than $1 million a year with an average tax cut of $394,000, and provides incentives for corporations to shift profits and jobs overseas. AARP: Ryan’s Plan Would Increase Health Care Costs for Older Americans. AARP CEO Addison Barry Rand wrote to Members of Congress about Paul Ryan’s Fiscal Year 2013 budget resolution. In the letter, Rand wrote: “this proposal simply shifts these high and growing costs onto Medicare beneficiaries, and it then shifts even higher costs of increased uninsured care onto everyone else […] By creating a ‘premium support’ system for future Medicare beneficiaries, the proposal is likely to simply increase costs for beneficiaries while removing Medicare's promise of secure health coverage -- a guarantee that future seniors have contributed to through a lifetime of hard work.” [AARP Letter, 3/21/12]
