Lobbyist David Jolly ‘Rigid Ideological Positions’ Wrong for Pinellas Women and Families

Special interest Lobbyist David Jolly has spent his campaign lying to Pinellas residents and embracing “rigid ideological positions” that are out of touch with Pinellas values. So for 10 days, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is highlighting 10 reasons why Pinellas residents can’t trust special interest Lobbyist David Jolly to represent them.

Today’s reason: Lobbyist Jolly and his anti-women agenda has just been endorsed by ANOTHER radical anti-women’s group that opposes abortion even when a mother’s health is at risk.

“From overturning Roe v. Wade to personally opposing paycheck fairness, Lobbyist David Jolly’s ‘rigid ideological positions’ would hurt Pinellas women and families,” said Emily Bittner of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Lobbyist Jolly would come between a women and her doctor and outlaw legal abortions – which is why it’s no surprise that Jolly is being propped up by two radical organizations that oppose abortion even when a mother’s health is at risk. It’s just more proof that Pinellas women and families cannot trust a lobbyist like David Jolly in Congress.”

And in case you missed them, here’s Reason 7, Reason 8, Reason 9 and Reason 10 voters can’t trust Lobbyist Jolly.

BACKGROUND:

Jolly Endorsed by a Group that Supported Banning Abortion Without Exception for Health of the Mother and that Praised Congressman Who Questioned “Legitimate Rape”. In March 2014, Jolly was endorsed  by Susan B. Anthony List. Susan B. Anthony List supports outlawing abortion and opposes an exception to protect the health of the mother, calling protections for a mother’s health “frivolous.” In  2012, the president of Susan B. Anthony list praised Congressman Todd Akin after Akin commented on the link between “legitimate rape” and pregnancy, stating that, “Todd Akin, on the other hand, has a record of voting to protect human life…We are proud to support Congressman Akin.” [Susan B. Anthony List Press Release, 3/04/147/20/10; BuzzFeed, 8/20/12; Washington Post, 8/19/12]

Jolly Previously by Group that Opposed Abortion in Cases of Rape and Incest. In 2013, Jolly said he “was pleased this past week to receive the endorsement of the National Right to Life Committee.” On their 2012 Congressional Candidate Questionnaire, the National Right to Life Committee reported they supported legal abortions only to prevent the death of the mother. Jolly Supported Overturning Roe v. Wade, Opposed a Woman’s Right to Choose. In 2014 Jolly said he supported overturning Roe v. Wade. The Tampa Bay Times reported: “Jolly would ban all abortion.” [Tampa Bay Times, 2/07/14; St. Petersburg College Candidate Forum, 2/03/14]
