Maggie Brooks Accepts Thousands From Congressman Under FBI Investigation
New reports filed with the Federal Election Commission this week show that Maggie Brooks (NY-25) accepted thousands of dollars from scandal-plagued Congressman Michael Grimm, who is currently the focus of an ongoing FBI investigation into potentially illegal fundraising practices.
“Maggie Brooks should immediately return the $2,000 that she took from this scandal-plagued Congressman who is currently under FBI investigation, or explain to New York voters why she is supporting this kind of corruption,” said Josh Schwerin, Northeast Press Secretary at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Maggie Brooks owes it to voters to get rid of this tainted cash immediately or else she is embracing the worst kind of Washington corruption.”
FEC reports show that Maggie Brooks accepted $2,000 from GRIMM PAC during the 2nd Quarter.
FBI Investigating Grimm’s Fundraising, Questioning Campaign Staff. “The FBI has questioned at least four people who worked on Congressman Michael Grimm’s 2010 campaign as part of its ongoing probe into allegations the Tea Party favorite took illegal election donations. […] The four, either campaign operatives and volunteers, were questioned in the past two weeks. In one case, the interview was conducted by a federal tag team that included an Assistant U.S. Attorney, sources told the Daily News. The FBI opened an inquiry into the Republican’s fund-raising after members of Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto’s New York congregation complained he was strong-arming them for donations, as the New York Times reported in January.” [New York Daily News, 6/20/12]
