Michael Grimm Refuses to Give Answers on Syria Fundraising - Says He’s Tired of Being Protested
Congressman Michael Grimm told his hometown newspaper over the weekend that he has “no interest in commenting” about his recent Syria fundraising debacle, and complained that he was tired of being protested so often. This time, Congressman Grimm was refusing to respond to a group protesting him for raising campaign cash off his abrupt flip-flop on Syria.
Congressman Grimm promised that “heads would roll” over the incident. The protestors were demanding to know whose heads rolled? How much money was raised off the illicit email? And they called on Grimm to give the cash he raised to charity.
“If Congressman Michael Grimm is tired of being protested, then he should give constituents some answers about his perpetually questionable fundraising practices,” said Marc Brumer of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “He still refuses to say whose ‘head rolled,’ how much cash he raised, and which individuals contributed to him for his abrupt flip-flop on Syria. The fact that Congressman Grimm responds by complaining about being asked these questions shows just how out of touch he is with the people he represents and underlines how much he believes he is above the rules. If Congressman Grimm doesn’t want to face tough questions, the simple solution is to come clean with his constituents and tell him who gave, how much they gave, and who got fired for it.”
Grimm Sent out Email “Asking for Donations Based on his High-Profile Switch” On Syria Intervention. “Rep. Michael Grimm (R-N.Y.) sent out a fundraising email on Friday, asking for donations based on his high-profile switch on Thursday that put him firmly on the side against intervening in Syria […] The five-paragraph email, which was first noticed by BuzzFeed's Rosie Gray, contains two paragraphs that are comprised entirely of donation requests.” [Business Insider, 9/6/13]
