Enthusiasm for Democrats New Direction Agenda Drives Record 2007 Fundraising
Chairman Chris Van Hollen today announced the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee raised a record $67.5 million for 2007, finishing the year with $35.1 million cash on hand and only $1.3 million in debt.
The American people are energized and inspired by Democrats agenda of change and the strong candidates weve recruited across the country, Chairman Van Hollen said. Our strong grassroots support stems from Democrats continuing fight to take America in a New Direction by strengthening our economy, changing course in Iraq, and restoring the American Dream to middle class families, but there is much more work to do. We need a Democratic president and a strong Democratic majority to move our country forward.
Grassroots enthusiasm continued to grow in 2007. The DCCC doubled the number of grassroots activists and supporters growing our list to over 2 million supporters strong. Our grassroots donors increased by more than five times over the same point last cycle, and grassroots fundraising more than doubled.
The DCCCs record setting fundraising reflects a five year trend of growing our base and enthusiasm for Speaker Pelosis leadership and House Democrats New Direction agenda. As a result of this strong performance, the DCCC has remained on offense this cycle putting 50 Republican seats in play.
