Opponents of Obama Are Uniting Against Richmond
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee reacted to a statement today by state Representative Juan LaFonta about his continuing support of Representative Joseph Cao in Louisiana’s 2nd district. The DCCC, the Congressional Black Caucus PAC and Mayor Mitch Landrieu among others supported Richmond’s campaign against LaFonta and Cao for many months. Cao opposed President Obama’s historic health insurance reform, his economic recovery act, and even his efforts to ensure equal pay for women.
“Throughout this campaign, people like Juan LaFonta and Joseph Cao, have been dedicated to stopping us from electing someone who will partner with President Obama to this seat in Congress so today’s announcement is nothing new,” said Jesse Ferguson, Southern Regional Press Secretary with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “The same people who are dedicated to tearing down President Obama and stopping his agenda are quickly rallying around Joseph Cao. But the people of New Orleans and Jefferson Parish want a representative who would stand for accessible and affordable health insurance and work for our economic recovery. Joseph Cao stood with Washington Republicans and against the most significant achievements of President Obama’s agenda. For that, the people of this district will, no doubt, stand against him.”
