Representative Kevin McCarthy Keeps Up Hypocrisy, Works Hard to Earn ‘Party of No’ Moniker

Today, Representative Kevin McCarthy earned another notch in the hypocrisy belt.

"Representative McCarthy can try to run from his ‘Party of No' moniker, but his record tells another story," said Andy Stone, Western Regional Press Secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.  "When he had the chance, McCarthy voted NO on creating or saving thousands of jobs in his district, providing low-income children with health coverage, protecting consumers who play by the rules from excessive fees and sky-high interest rates charged by credit card companies, and ending predatory lending practices."

Noting that the country is in fiscal crisis, McCarthy recently told the Antelope Valley Press he recognizes that, "We're all in this together and we need to find a solution."

He went on to "pledge" that he would "...provide alternative ideas, not just opposition to the plans presented across the aisle."

But times are tough and in just four months, McCarthy has racked up quite a record, voting against:

  • Extending health coverage to 694,000 low-income children in California [Roll Call Vote, 2/4/2009]
  • Creating or saving 8,400 jobs in California's 22nd District [Roll Call Vote, 2/13/2009]
  • Protecting consumers from credit card companies charging excessive fees and sky-high interest rates [Roll Call Vote, 4/30/2009]
  • Ending predatory lending practices [Roll Call Vote, 5/07/09]
