Republicans Clamoring for Another Failed CEO in Congress
The Orlando Sentinel reports this afternoon that Former Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse CEO Craig Miller visited Washington Wednesday and is considering running for Congress against Representative Suzanne Kosmas in Florida’s 24th district. Less than two years ago, Miller was forced out as CEO of Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse when the Board of Directors was “displeased with Miller’s financial stewardship of the company.”
Democrats responded to the report saying, “Really? Republicans think the solution to challenges in Washington is to run a failed CEO who can’t successfully manage a business,” said Jesse Ferguson, Southern Regional Press Secretary at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Florida families want someone in Washington with a proven track record of getting results, an independent viewpoint standing up for middle class families and a commitment to fiscal discipline and responsibility. Washington Republicans are promoting a failed businessman who had his big bonuses taken away and then was fired. When this candidate steps aside, their next step might be an AIG CEO who was forced out.”
Background
“Miller’s recent sacking as chairman, chief executive and president of Ruth’s Chris Steak House, the upscale-steakhouse chain, came late last month at the hands of the company’s board. […] According to some reports, the board was displeased with Miller’s financial stewardship of the company and, as a result, had voted previously to deny him and his executives bonuses for 2007.” [Nation’s Restaurant News, 5/26/08]
“Former Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse CEO Craig Miller visited Washington Wednesday and said he was seriously considering jumping into the primary race to take on Kosmas. Miller confirmed to the Sentinel moments ago that he was likely to formally jump in next week, but declined to comment on the current GOP field.” [Orlando Sentinel, 2/04/10]
