Republicans Reprise Thoroughly Debunked Claim About Health Insurance Reform
The American Action Network, a Republican front group spending millions from undisclosed donors, has launched attacks on Democrats in several districts falsely claiming that the health insurance reform law “spent our money on health insurance for illegal immigrants.” This claim is blatantly false and has been debunked by numerous independent news organizations.

FACT: CBS News reported that, “Illegal immigrants will not be allowed to buy health insurance in the exchanges -- even if they pay completely with their own money.” [CBS News, 3/23/10]
FACT: The Associated Press reported that illegal immigrants are “explicitly excluded from the legislation.” [Associated Press, 4/4/10]
FACT: The New York Times reported that illegal immigrants, “Could not buy insurance from the exchanges, even if they were able to pay the full cost themselves, without federal subsidies.” [New York Times]
