Republicans Should Remove Don Young from His Congressional Committees

Representative Don Young (AK-AL) is reportedly under federal investigation for accepting bribes and unreported gifts in exchange for giving political favors to one of his largest campaign contributors. Leader Boehner and the Republican Conference should immediately remove Young from the Transportation and Infrastructure and the Natural Resources Committees.

“Apparently, Minority Leader John Boehner didn’t mean it when he said that ‘[The] clear likelihood of serious transgressions will lead to suspension from important committees,” said Jennifer Crider, Communications Director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Don Young is being investigated for bribery – one of the most ‘serious transgressions’ a Member of Congress faces – but he still sits on the Committees overseeing the issues important to the company that allegedly bribed him. Clearly, Republicans haven’t learned their lesson about holding their Members accountable for their wrong doing.”
