Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz to Chair DCCC’s Women LEAD Program

Washington, DC – Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), today announced that Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz (PA-13) would chair the DCCC’s Women LEAD program.

Schwartz will increase women’s participation this cycle engaging more women in Democratic politics and fundraising by taking former Women LEAD Chair Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky’s “Ultimate Women’s Power Lunch” around the country.

“Engaging more Democratic women in the political process is a winning formula for our Party as we move toward 2008. The Women LEAD program is an integral component of that strategy,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi said. “Congresswoman Schwartz will do a fantastic job building on the success of last cycle and engaging even more women in the Democratic Party.”

“Women voters, activists, and donors were vital to Democrats success last November and they will be even more important this cycle in helping Democrats continuing our change agenda,” Chairman Van Hollen said. “There is no better person than Congresswoman Schwartz to tap into the tremendous energy around the country for our first woman Speaker, the record number of women in Congress, and a viable Democratic woman presidential candidate.”

“I am honored to have the confidence of Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Van Hollen to lead this vital program. In 2006 we witnessed how important women voters were to our success. It is critical that we continue to engage them and further expand their participation in the democratic process. We know that when women vote Democrats win and I will work tirelessly to reward the confidence they showed in us and build upon our successes.”
