Ten Days Passed And Still No Explanation from Lou Barletta on 2002 Sweetheart Loan Deal

Ten days ago, Lou Barletta promised an explanation for his unsecured $65,000 sweetheart loan deal from the Legacy Bank of Harrisburg and we are yet to hear why no payments have been made, no interest accrued. The Federal Election Commission shows that Lou Barletta has documented the potentially illegal loan 22 times between 2002 and 2008.

“Lou Barletta has had ten days to explain what looks like a $65,000 sweetheart loan deal and instead of answering simple questions, Barletta is hiding behind empty excuses,” said Jennifer Crider, Communications Director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “The average Pennsylvanian makes $37,500 per year and wouldn't be able to get a $65,000 unsecured, no payment, no interest loan -- yet Lou Barletta doesn't feel the need to explain to voters why he said 22 times over 6 years that he had a loan like that. Pennsylvanians struggling to make ends meet can account for every penny in their family's budgets, Lou Barletta’s unwillingness to answer simple questions about his own budgeting raises serious questions.”

When asked about the loan, Lou Barletta’s campaign cited a "clerical error" -- an error made 22 times over six years -- that has yet to be cleared up:
