Van Hollen�s Statement on the Labor Department�s April Job Loss Report

DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement on the unemployment statistics released this week by the Department of Labor:

“Today’s troubling news that 20,000 more jobs were lost in April and 380,000 workers have filed for unemployment benefits, tells us all we need to know about President Bush and House Republicans’ failed economic legacy for America.

“The 20,000 workers who got a pink slip last month would take issue with John McCain’s recent assessment that the last seven years of George’s Bush’s economic policies have brought ’great progress.' With four straight months of job losses and consumer confidence dropping to a 5-year low, it’s clear that we need new economic priorities in Washington that put the needs of middle class families before special interests.

“House Democrats will continue taking aggressive action to rebuild our economy, create jobs, and ease the squeeze on America’s struggling middle class families.”
