Why is Hensarling “Just Saying No” to Economic Recovery?  He’s Protecting Freedom of Course!

Hensarling Calls Recession "A Part of Freedom"

Why is Representative Jeb Hensarling trying to block job creation, deny capital for small businesses, and increase taxes on working Texans?  He's protecting our freedom of course!

Hensarling explained this morning that he believes recessions are "a part of freedom."

And who wouldn't want to defend freedom, right?

"Representative Hensarling's bizarre belief that recessions are ‘a part of freedom' explains why he voted against the biggest tax cut in history, and ‘just said no' to economic recovery," said Jessica Santillo, Southern Regional Press Secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.  "Instead of defending the recession, Representative Hensarling should be defending his constituents by working to end the economic crisis, not prolong it."

In defending the "freedom" to have a recession, Representative Hensarling "just said no" to the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, which will save or create 7,900 jobs in his district, invest in small businesses, and cut taxes for 95 percent of working Americans.

Background

  • Today on C-SPAN's Washington Journal, Representative Hensarling said, "I don't think we can figure out how to outlaw recessions any more than we can outlaw tornadoes or outlaw hurricanes. ... It's a part of freedom. Sometimes freedom can be messy. Sometimes freedom has reversals. But it certainly beats the alternative."  Watch it here.
