Tell Republicans: Equal Work Deserves Equal Pay

Women still only make 77 cents on the dollar compared to men, according to the U.S. Census bureau.

In fact, by the time the average woman is 65, she will have lost $431,000 over her working lifetime because of the earnings gap [U.S. Census Bureau]. According to a new report, "Women’s median earnings are lower than men’s in nearly all occupations..." [IWPR, April 2012].

But Republicans are standing opposed to Fair Pay laws. House Republicans voted nearly unanimously against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. Just a few weeks ago, Republican Governor Scott Walker repealed Wisconsin’s Equal Pay law.
