Paul Ryan to Reward “Washington’s PAC Man” John Katko for Anti-Choice Record

Later tonight, Speaker Paul Ryan will throw a fundraiser for Republican John Katko, rewarding the Congressman for putting the Washington Republican agenda ahead of Central New York when it counts.

Look no further than Katko’s anti-choice record and special interest funding to see that he is beholden to Washington, not Central New York.

Since entering office, Katko helped House Republicans vote to defund Planned Parenthood four times, despite promising to voters that he wouldn’t. Beyond breaking his word, Katko’s far-right positions are out of step with Central New York, where polling shows that nearly 7 out of 10 voters self-identify as pro-choice.

Not only should voters question Katko’s commitment to Central New York women and families, they should question whether will stand up for Central New York at all – given the majority of special interest money that is bankrolling his campaign.

According to a recent report, “Katko has relied on PACs for a little more than $1 million in campaign contributions out of a total of about $1.8 million.” Katko is also ranked 7th among freshman House members for accepting special interest money.

Katko was even dubbed “Washington’s PAC man” by the Syracuse Post-Standard.

“Speaker Paul Ryan is throwing a fundraiser for Republican John Katko to reward the Congressman for putting the Washington Republican agenda ahead of Central New York when it counts,” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC. “Whether it is breaking a promise to voters by voting to defund Planned Parenthood four times or the majority of special interest money bankrolling his campaign, it’s clear that Katko answers to Washington, not Central New York.”
