QUICK CLIP: Chairman Israel Emphasizes Number of Close Races in Tough Environment

Today on Fox News’s Happening Now, DCCC Chairman Steve Israel discussed the surprising number of toss-up races five days before the election, despite the tough midterm environment House Democrats are facing.

Chairman Israel: “I’m not going to sugarcoat it—it’s tough terrain. It’s a presidential midterm election. Every president’s party has lost seats in a midterm. The average historic loss: 29 seats. Ronald Reagan lost seats in his second midterm—so it’s tough terrain. But here’s the thing—there are still so many races that are just so tight. I have never seen anything like this, where you’ve got races five days before an election that neither side can call.”

Chairman Israel also emphasized the need to come together to focus on middle class priorities after the election: “I will cross the aisle any time I can, and create any kind of partnership I can, to focus how we provide for the expansion of the economy for the middle class, refinance college debt. Those are critical economic issues confronting middle class and the middle class expects us to work together on those issues. So whoever is elected, whoever is reelected, let’s just meet in the middle and get things done for the American people.”
