QUICK CLIP: Chairman Israel: Our Grassroots Help Us Go Toe-to-Toe in Tough Environment

This morning on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Chairman Steve Israel highlighted how the DCCC’s grassroots supporters are helping to keep races competitive in a tough midterm environment.

Chairman Israel said: “Last night Sheldon Adelson wrote a $5 million check to John Boehner’s super PAC. It’s tough to counter that. You know how we do it? We are going point by point with them, toe to toe with them with grassroots money.”

Chairman Israel also added that while midterm elections are tough for a President’s party, Americans stand with Democrats on the issues: “I don’t predict and you’re not going to get me to predict—I prepare. Number one, every midterm election is tough for the President’s party. Ronald Reagan lost seats at the height of his popularity in the second midterm. Number two, redistricting has hurt us. We won with over 1.3 million more votes than Republicans two years ago—we didn’t get the majority. But on issues, you look at the polling nationwide on paying a woman the same as a man, 80 percent of people agree with us, minimum wage—80 percent, immigration—70 percent. So on those issues people generally agree with us, but a midterm election is indisputably tough.”
