During today’s debate in Florida’s 26th Congressional District on ABC’s This Week in South Florida, host Michael Putney slammed Carlos Curbelo for calling Medicare and Social Security a “Ponzi scheme” and comparing these vital programs to criminal activity.
Then, in a roundtable following the debate, Miami Herald political reporter Patricia Mazzei called Curbelo out for continuing to hide his lobbying clients – leading South Floridians on a “wild goose chase.” Two stories have revealed that Curbelo’s secret clients include Ecuadorian fugitives wanted for embezzling millions.
Putney: “The shorthand you used, Carlos, ‘Ponzi scheme,’ connotes criminal activity. Neither Social Security nor Medicare is any kind of criminal.”
Mazzei: “When I speak to people about him I ask them, do you know of any of his clients? It’s a bit of a wild goose chase because you know, there is a point to be made about, well are you just supposed to come up with a list and ask one-by-one.”
