The Senate didn’t save Rep. Mike Coffman

**Similar releases were sent to all targeted House Republicans regardless of how they voted on the floor**

This week, Senate Republicans will work to push their health care bill through the Senate. This bill was written behind closed doors and is only moving forward because House Republicans voted for a bill that would take health care away from millions.

“If Rep. Mike Coffman thought the Senate would make this health care bill less painful for Colorado families, he was wrong. The Senate didn’t save Rep. Coffman and voters will hold him accountable for the Republican majority in Washington, no matter what happens this week,” said DCCC spokesperson Rachel Irwin. “This horrific Repeal and Ripoff bill would not be headed to a vote in the Senate now if House Republicans had not passed a bill that rips insurance from 23 million Americans, raises premiums, slaps an age tax on Americans over 50, and destroys protections for people with pre-existing conditions.”

Background:

  • In January, Rep. Mike Coffman voted to begin repealing the Affordable Care Act and paved the way for this disastrous repeal and ripoff health care bill. Without that bill, the repeal of the health care law could not have moved forward.
  • He has voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act more than 60 times and has said that the Senate would make “big modifications” to the House bill.
