Shot/Chaser: Tom MacArthur Tweets in Hopes Voters Forget Troubling Record on Women’s Health During Breast Cancer Awareness Month

CHASER:  Congressman MacArthur recently voted twice to defund Planned Parenthood, a resource that thousands of southern and central New Jersey women and families count on for life-saving health services, including breast cancer screenings.

According to a 2013 annual report, Planned Parenthood of Southern New Jersey received over 8,000 patients and handled over 15,000 medical visits, including cancer screenings, in the previous year.

BACKGROUND

September 30: MacArthur Voted To Defund Planned Parenthood. On September 30, 2015, Rep. MacArthur voted to “require the House enrolling clerk to add language to the CR defunding Planned Parenthood before it is sent to the president.” The enrollment resolution would incorporate HR 3134, the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015. September 18: MacArthur Voted To Defund Planned Parenthood. On September 18, 2015 Rep. MacArthur voted to “The House on Friday voted along party lines to freeze federal funding for Planned Parenthood after weeks of escalating tension surrounding its use of fetal tissue. In a 241-187 vote, nearly all Republicans and two Democrats approved legislation that would block Planned Parenthood’s federal funding for one year, giving time for Congress to fully investigate claims of wrongdoing by the provider.
