Steve Knight’s Week in Washington: Failed to File Ethics Forms, Failed to Protect Our Troops, Failed to give DREAMers the Opportunity to Serve

TGIF. That’s what Steve Knight is saying today as he heads home to California’s 25th District for the weekend after getting caught skirting ethics requirements and casting vote after vote in line with Washington Republicans. Knight goes into this weekend having spent this week:

  • Failing to file required ethics forms;
  • Refusing to ensure that service members get a pay raise and will be paid if Republicans cause another reckless government shutdown; and
  • Voting against potentially allowing DREAMers to attain citizenship through serving in our nation’s military.

“How Steve Knight failed his constituents this week in Congress – let me count the ways,” said Matt Thornton of the DCCC. “Steve Knight had numerous opportunities this week to protect our troops from reckless Republicans, honor the contributions DREAMers have made to our nation, and ensure our troops get paid when Republicans cause another government shutdown. Instead, Knight continued to hide his financial interests from his constituents and voted with extreme Washington Republicans at every turn.”

Knight Failed To File Required Financial Disclosure Forms. “Freshman Santa Clarita Valley Congressman Steve Knight admitted this week that he failed to file a necessary financial disclosure statement… The missed disclosure statements detail the financial interests and holdings of congressional representatives and candidates with the purpose of outlining where they could potentially have a conflict of interest.” [Santa Clarita Valley Signal, 5/08/15]

Knight Voted To Block An Amendment To Ensure A Pay Raise & Ensure Service Members Are Paid In Event Of Government Shutdown. In May 2015, Steve Knight voted against a motion to recommit that would ensure a  2.3% pay increase for fiscal year 2016 for service members and would ensure that service members are paid in the event of a government shutdown. [HR 1735, Vote #238, 5/15/15]

Knight Voted To  Strip Language Encouraging Defense Department To Allow DREAMers To Serve In Uniform. In May 2015, Steve Knight voted to strip out an amendment to the Defense Authorization bill that “would encourage the Pentagon to consider allowing immigrants brought to the country as children to [serve in the military].” [HR 1735, Vote #229, 5/14/15; NPR, 5/13/15]
