On Talk Line, Alex ‘Maryland’ Mooney Lies and Looks Out For Himself

On today’s Talk Line With Hoppy Kercheval, Alex “Maryland” Mooney showed once against that’s he’s a carpet-bagging, career politician who will say anything to help himself – even if it means lying about his positions on the issues that matter to West Virginians.

From wanting to privatize Social Security and forcing seniors to gamble their retirement on the stock market to voting against a minimum wage increase, Mooney can’t defend his record that’s out of touch with West Virginia’s values, so he’s not telling the truth – just like the typical self-interested politician that he is.

See for yourself:

TODAY: Mooney Won’t Take a Position on The Ryan Budget. Hoppy asked Mooney if he supported the Ryan budget, including its plan to turn Medicare into a voucher program. Mooney said: “I’m not there yet. I’d have to read it before I made a commitment on that.” [WV MetroNews, 10/24/14]

FLASHBACK: Mooney: “I Actually Think I Would’ve Voted for Something Even More Dramatic Than The Ryan Budget.” “The Ryan budget is certainly better than what we have now. It reins in some spending. I actually haven’t read the entire budget, but I agree with the principles of balancing the budget over time. I actually think I would’ve voted for something even more dramatic than the Ryan budget,” Mooney said. [WV Metro News, 4/21/14]

TODAY: Mooney Claims He Opposes Privatizing Medicare. “I will say that we need to preserve and protect Medicare… I made it clear I’m not for privatizing Medicare and Medicaid.” [WV MetroNews, 10/24/14]

FLASHBACK: Mooney Supported Privatizing Social Security and Medicare. “I actually want to give the people control over their accounts. Not the government. You can personalize those. Give folks more rights over where to invest it, and have more personal control, and do some reforms that way… For younger folks, we have to reform the system, again in a way that personalizes it, and let them decide where they want to invest it, not a government program, for younger folks,” Mooney said. TODAY: Mooney Won’t Take A Position on The Minimum Wage. “Do I support or oppose the minimum wage? That’s really a state decision, so the state can handle that… Philosophical view is that local decisions should be made locally, and private industry should be able to employ as many people as they can.” [WV MetroNews, 10/24/14]

FLASHBACK: Mooney Voted Against Minimum Wage Increase. In 2005, Mooney voted for a budget that increased the minimum wage from $5.15 per hour to $6.15 per hour. [HB 391, 4/06/05]
