THE DA VINCI (TAX) CODE: Congressman Kelly Compares Disastrous GOP Tax Scam to the “Mona Lisa”

Nobody’s smiling after Kelly passed a big giveaway to himself and his special interest donors on the backs of the middle-class

In an insult to art lovers everywhere, Congressman Mike Kelly compared the disastrous GOP tax scam that he backed – and profited lavishly from through the ‘Kelly Kickback’ – to the Mona Lisa, according to the Huffington Post:

Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.) could not believe that Democrats had called a hearing to say bad things about the new tax law Republicans rushed through Congress at the end of 2017.

[…]

It reminded [Kelly] of a time he visited the Louvre Museum in Paris, where the Mona Lisa, a famous 16th-century painting by Leonardo Da Vinci, is on permanent display. So Kelly told a story.

“I was standing there looking at this magnificent portrait by Da Vinci and I thought, ‘This is absolutely gorgeous,’” Kelly said.

Then a guy came up beside him and asked him what he thought of the painting. Kelly said he thought it was gorgeous, but the guy did not agree.

“He says ‘I don’t think so, I think her mouth is kind of funny,’” Kelly said.

Democrats who don’t like the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act are like that guy, according to Kelly.

This comparison, however, doesn’t really pass muster. While Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa is a near-universally beloved piece of art, Kelly’s tax scam is a horrible – and pretty unsightly – special interest giveaway to big corporations that is raising taxes on the middle-class while increasing health care premiums – even as it adds $2 trillion to the federal debt, putting Social Security and Medicare at risk.

“Mike Kelly may have profited handsomely after backing the Republican tax scam, but it’s clear that money can’t buy you taste,” said DCCC spokesperson Mike Gwin. “The GOP’s tax scam is a lot of things – a giveaway to the rich, a budget buster, and a tax hike on the middle-class – but it certainly isn’t a work of art.”
