Voters in New York Are Discovering They’ll Owe More and Get Less This Tax Season
With Tax Day looming, more and more hardworking families in New York are realizing they’re about to pay more in taxes and get less in refunds this year. Rubberstamp Republicans like Congressman John Katko promised the GOP’s bill would cut taxes for middle-class families, lower deficits, and pay for itself. Turns out, none of that is true.
Despite the GOP’s claims, the Katko tax scam was a massive giveaway to the wealthy and big corporations. Conversely, it raised taxes on the middle-class while increasing healthcare premiums. What’s worse, it added $2 trillion to the federal debt ushering in an era of trillion-dollar deficits.
That’s not all. Not only are NY-24 voters suffering under crushing tax hikes, but the tax scam isn’t actually paying for itself.
Which begs the question: does John Katko still stand by his vote to raise taxes on New Yorkers?
“Congressman Katko promised voters that the Republicans’ tax scam would benefit everyday, hardworking New Yorkers,” said DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett. “Well, now that New Yorkers are filing their taxes, they’re discovering that it was all a shell game designed to help corporate special interests at their expense. Katko must explain why he was so eager to rubberstamp a scam that benefited his wealthy donors at the expense of his voters.”
