Last week we saw a Republican convention marked by dark rhetoric and outright fear-mongering. We saw the Republican Party enthusiastically line up behind their toxic presidential nominee and endorse an agenda that hurts women and children. This should come as no surprise given that House Republicans just left town for a nearly two month recess leaving critical legislative action to protect and strengthen families undone. This stands in stark contrast to the positive, forward-looking vision for our families and children on display at the Democratic convention in Philadelphia.
The Republican convention showed the American people that Will Hurd and House Republicans are not interested in protecting American families and children. They are not the party of results – they are the party of inaction. Democrats are fighting to protect American families and children, including fighting to pass a bill to adequately protect Americans from Zika, help the children of Flint affected by lead-contaminated water, keep hardworking immigrant families together, and ensure that women receive equal pay for equal work.
“Last week further clarified that House Republicans and Will Hurd are pushing a divisive agenda that would hurt American families and children,” said Jermaine House of the DCCC. “Their shameful decision to put party over country has alienated hardworking Texans and it’s going to cost them in November.”
