Clinton ahead by 14 points
A new poll from Tulchin Research shows Colonel Doug Applegate leading Republican Congressman Darrell Issa by four points – 46 percent to 42 percent – in the race for California’s 49th Congressional District
The new poll comes after limited paid communications highlighting Issa’s close connections to Donald Trump and his use of a broken political system to make himself richer. Issa and his lawyers sent a baseless letter in response, demonstrating just how worried he is about voters learning about his real record.
The poll shows a remarkably favorable environment for Democrats where Hillary Clinton leads Trump by 14 points – 49 percent to 35 percent – and Trump is viewed negatively by a two-to-one margin. President Obama is viewed favorably by 55 percent of voters.
“As Donald Trump’s candidacy continues to implode, so do the reelection chances of his biggest fan Darrel Issa,” said Barb Solish of the DCCC. “Issa’s blind partisanship is exactly what’s wrong with Washington, and voters at home want someone like Colonel Doug Applegate who will put their country before politics.”
California’s 49th District runs along California’s coast from Northern San Diego County to Southern Orange County and includes Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
