Boehner’s Test: Republican Ideologues vs the American Public

According to a new CNN poll, the country is not looking forward to the next two years with Republicans in control of Congress. Half of Americans think Republican control is bad for the country and 52 percent think it will mean more gridlock.

“As Speaker Boehner struggles to keep his Tea Party caucus from forcing another shutdown, he is facing a public that expects more gridlock and less progress under his watch,” said Josh Schwerin of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “John Boehner faces a tough test over the next two weeks – does he listen to his ideological caucus or to the 68 percent of Americans who want Republicans to cooperate more with President Obama?”
