Carlos Curbelo Praised President Bush’s Plan to Privatize Social Security

A new Miami Herald report reveals that Carlos Curbelo was caught on tape calling Medicare and Social Security “a Ponzi scheme,” but this isn’t the first time that Curbelo has put his own politics over South Florida seniors: Curbelo previously announced that he supports President Bush’s 2005 proposal to privatize Social Security.

From Radio Mambi:

Curbelo: “…but for younger people of my generation, even those who are a little older – need to be given more flexibility in the Social Security so that they can control  their own destiny… few politicians have had the courage to mention in recent years, the last was President Bush in 2005,  who proposed a reform Social Security and was crushed by the left and some Republicans who feared for their electoral future.” [Radio Mambi, 8/13/14]

“Not only is Carlos Curbelo insulting South Florida seniors by labeling Medicare and Social Security a ‘Ponzi scheme,’ Curbelo has even praised President Bush’s plan to privatize Social Security – a disastrous idea that would force seniors to gamble their retirement on the stock market,” said David Bergstein of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Curbelo is putting his own political ambitions and the interests of his Tea Party allies over South Florida seniors – which is exactly why Curbelo cannot be trusted in Congress.”

Curbelo also supports the 2014 Republican Budget that the AARP stated would end the Medicare guarantee.
