Curbelo’s Misleading Zika Virus Bill Contains No Funding

Carlos Curbelo’s latest attempt to address the Zika virus does more to endanger women and children in South Florida than address the growing crisis.  Cubelo’s measure codifies Republicans’ dangerous call to retool Ebola funding to combat the spread of Zika, while offering no additional funding to combat the spread of the virus.

With the advice of public health officials, President Obama asked Congress in February for $1.8 billion to fight Zika, but Republicans refused, saying the government should retool already appropriated funds for other Ebola response efforts.

“With South Florida being the region most affected by the Zika virus, it’s shocking that Carlos Curbelo still stands with Republicans by introducing this bill that provides no emergency funding and unnecessarily restricts the government’s ability to address the growing crisis,” said DCCC Spokesman Jermaine House. “ With this bill, Congressman Curbelo has once again shown that he cares more about appearances than actually addressing the needs of real people. He can’t be trusted to protect South Florida.”
