DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Luján today announced a new round of candidates to qualify for the DCCC’s Emerging Races designation, part of the highly competitive Red to Blue program. These candidates have earned this designation by meeting key organizational and campaign infrastructure goals, and will be ready to compete for these seats in November. Beyond these promising campaign strengths, these candidates also demonstrate the ability to fight on behalf of hardworking people across the country, keep them safe, and make sure that the economy is working for everyone.
“This expansion of our Emerging Races program is yet another example of the talented candidates we have running across the country who will expand our Democratic ranks in November. They have each earned a spot in this program by proving that they have what it takes to run effective, aggressive campaigns.
“With the chaos and uncertainty at the top of the Republican ticket, our battlefield of competitive races continues to expand, and these candidates are well-positioned to earn the trust of voters and take advantage of this ongoing Republican dysfunction and the electoral winds it creates,” said DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Luján.
The following were named to Red to Blue’s Emerging Races designation:
- CA-25 – Bryan Caforio
- CO-03 – Gail Schwartz
- NY-21 – Mike Derrick
- NY-22 – Kim Myers
- VA-04 – Don McEachin
- WI-08 – Tom Nelson
With these additions, 37 districts and candidates are part of the Red to Blue or Emerging Races programs. There are 16 candidates selected for Red to Blue, plus 5 districts with multiple Democratic candidates that have also qualified for Red to Blue. The Emerging Races aspect of the program now has 14 candidates and 2 Emerging Districts, where campaigns are on track and working hard to put seats in play. There will be additional candidates added to Red to Blue in the future.
