DCCC Massively Outraises NRCC Again, As Republican Third Parties Prop Up NRCC’s Lackluster Fundraising

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee once again outraised the National Republican Congressional Committee, raising a record-breaking $16.7 million in September and defeating the NRCC by nearly $6 million. While Republicans’ third party groups led by the Koch Brothers and Karl Rove prop up the NRCC’s lackluster fundraising, the DCCC’s fundraising success comes from record-shattering grassroots support.

In addition, at Leader Pelosi’s annual luncheon today featuring Secretary Hillary Clinton, the DCCC raised $1.4 million – building on a strong history of successful events.

“Heading into the homestretch, we can only remain competitive if we over-perform – and that’s exactly what we’re doing,” said DCCC Chairman Steve Israel. “This record-breaking month is driven by our incredible grassroots supporters who refuse to sit back and let House Republicans’ special interest allies buy this election.”

What does the DCCC’s fundraising strength mean?

On the ground

The DCCC is making historic investments in field operations to get out the vote. The DCCC launched an unprecedented voter registration effort, doubled its field budget and began voter contact programs six months earlier than normal, with that investment paying historic dividends, as the Washington Post reported: “House Democrats, flush with campaign cash, have crafted an unprecedented field operation this year that has registered tens of thousands of voters – including several thousand in critical states – for the first time.” As of the end of September, the DCCC had more than 800 field staff in 42 districts that have registered nearly 80,000 new voters and reached out to more than 16 million voters through grassroots organizing efforts.

On the air

As Republican third party groups pour millions into House races, the DCCC’s early spending is keeping key races competitive and the committee is going toe-to-toe with Republican third party groups to protect our incumbents in a tough, unpredictable environment – and unlike 2010 and 2012, not a single incumbent is uncovered on the air.

The DCCC made every dollar go further by locking in early TV rates in districts that later became competitive and extremely expensive. For instance, in AR-02, both the DCCC and Crossroads bought $1.5 million in TV time – but the DCCC is able to air three times as many ads.
