DCCC Statement on Iowa Supreme Court Upholding Dangerous Abortion Ban

In response to the Iowa Supreme Court upholding the state’s extreme abortion ban that bans abortion before many women even know they’re pregnant, DCCC spokesperson Mallory Payne released the following statement:

“Today, women across Iowa are facing the horrific reality of one of the nation’s most restrictive and dangerous abortion bans taking effect. Their freedom to make their own health care decisions has been ripped away by anti-abortion politicians like Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn, who laid the groundwork for this ban.

“Let’s be clear – this decision is exactly what Nunn and Miller-Meeks wanted. Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn worked relentlessly in the state legislature to ban abortion in Iowa; Nunn even voted for an earlier version of this very ban. In Congress, Nunn and Miller-Meeks have voted over and over to restrict reproductive care for women across the country, making clear the next step in their crusade is to ban abortion nationwide.

“Voters will remember Nunn and Miller-Meeks’ anti-abortion records amid this devastating ruling, and will hold them accountable for their dangerous extremism at the ballot box this November.”
