DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Luján today announced the addition of retired Marine Colonel Doug Applegate (CA-49) to the Red to Blue program.
“As a proud father, 32-year Marine Corps veteran, and small businessman, Colonel Applegate has proven his deep commitment to helping middle-class families get ahead and keeping Americans safe. Unlike Congressman Darrell Issa, Colonel Applegate will always put his country before partisan politics,” said Chairman Ben Ray Luján. “As a part of the Red to Blue program, Colonel Applegate will continue to build on his formidable grassroots organization to make sure families in California’s 49th Congressional district get the leadership they deserve.”
This Red to Blue designation indicates that Applegate will run a top-notch campaign through election day, putting him in an excellent position to join the Democratic caucus. Beyond promising campaign strength, Applegate has proven he will put country before politics and stand up for hardworking families.
Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) and Congressman Denny Heck (WA-10) are co-chairs of the Red to Blue program. There are 48 districts and candidates in the Red to Blue or Emerging Races programs.
