Press Release

NEW POLL: Colonel Applegate and Congressman Issa Neck and Neck

Clinton Leads Trump by Six, Voters Think Issa Will Follow Trump

A new poll released today shows Marine Colonel Doug Applegate is still neck and neck with Republican Congressman and Trump-supporter Darrell Issa, trailing by just two points, 48 percent to 46 percent, which is within the margin of error. The poll was conducted before Trump’s disastrous debate performance and after heavy spending and nasty personal attacks from Issa.

According to the poll, Applegate leads Issa by 30 points among Decline to State voters, a key voting bloc in California.

Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by six points, who is viewed unfavorably by 60 percent of the district. Not only do voters dislike Trump, 42 percent believe Issa will go along with Trump’s agenda.

Notably, President Obama holds a 54 percent job approval rating, further underscoring the challenging environment Issa and Republicans face this cycle.

“Darrell Issa’s blind partisanship is exactly what’s wrong with Washington, and voters at home are tired of it,” said Barb Solish of the DCCC. “Southern Californians want a Member of Congress who will put the good of the country before any political or personal agenda.”

California’s 49th District runs along California’s coast from Northern San Diego County to Southern Orange County and includes Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
