Politifact Finds that Zeldin Failed to Show Up to Half of Veterans Committee Hearings

Even Politifact is upholding Lee Zeldin’s no-show record.

In their determination they argue, “We found proof from transcripts and webcasts that Zeldin attended at least 28 of the 56 hearings.”

That means that the Long Island Congressman who claims to work for veterans was absent for as many as half of Veterans Committee hearings.

“Lee Zeldin claims to work for veterans, but even Politifact can only prove that he only showed up to half of Veterans Committee hearings that address issues important to veterans and their families,” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC. “If someone didn’t show up to work half the time, they’d be fired. Why does Congressman Lee Zeldin think he’s above the rules?”

This isn’t the only time Zeldin has skipped out of work in Congress. Earlier this year, the New York Post found that Zeldin “missed more than half of full [Foreign Affairs] committee hearings last year.”

Zeldin was also “absent 67 percent of time – when looking at full committee and subcommittee hearings focused just on ISIS and the Syrian crisis – issues Zeldin regularly lectures about on cable news.”
