Mike Lawler is trying to deceive voters about his support for women’s rights on national TV, but when it comes to actually showing up for the women of New York’s 17th Congressional District, he’s nowhere to be found.
Is anyone surprised? Lawler’s anti-women record tells you exactly why he’s a no-show:
Lawler supported the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which led to sweeping abortion bans without exceptions at the state level.
Lawler believes “that the right to abortion should be reserved to a tiny subset of American women,” and supports rolling back abortion access in New York.
Lawler has voted for draconian anti-abortion legislation in Congress multiple times, including restricting reproductive care nationally for servicemembers and their families.
Lawler lied about abortion restrictions at an in-district event, denying that there are states which lack abortion exceptions for rape or incest – asking attendees to “show [him] the law.”
Lawler’s spokesperson also blamed abortion rights advocates for trying to “distract voters.”
Lawler worked for Donald Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign, who bragged about overturning Roe v. Wade.
At the RNC, Lawler was caught grinning on camera at anti-choice extremist JD Vance becoming Trump’s VP nominee; Lawler reportedly said he was “not concerned at all” about Vance’s problematic anti-women positions.
Lawler has donated to crisis pregnancy centers, touted their fundraisers, voted to fund them with taxpayer dollars, and repeatedly promoted these dangerous clinics known for misleading women, including those operated in New York’s 17th Congressional District.
DCCC Spokesperson Ellie Dougherty:
“Mike Lawler’s refusal to engage with women in New York’s 17th Congressional District for a candidate forum further shows his disregard for prioritizing their rights and freedoms.”
