Tonight Speaker Paul Ryan once again confirmed how out-of-touch he is with the vast majority of Americans when he restated that he will gut Planned Parenthood and the life-saving services that they provide.
Today, Planned Parenthood relies on federal government for nearly 40% of its funding to provide life-saving health and reproductive services for women across the country. But tonight is a clear reminder that Republicans remain wildly out of step with the American public when it comes to supporting women in making their own health decisions.
In fact, Ryan tried to tel the audience that federal taxpayer money is currently being spent on abortion services, which is completely inaccurate because of the Hyde Amendment. Jake Tapper was forced to correct the stammering Speaker.
With both Houses of Congress and the White House soon to be under Republican control, Paul Ryan’s words are a warning that women’s healthcare is about to suffer gravely under the new Republican majority.
“Millions of Americans rely every year on Planned Parenthood for crucial healthcare, and voters do not want Republicans to touch this program. But Paul Ryan and House Republicans don’t seem to care and remain obsessed with cutting Planned Parenthood funding, to the point of misleading the town hall audience into believing that federal money is spent on abortions,” said Meredith Kelly of the DCCC.
