Republican Speaker John Boehner just came out against a new proposal from Democratic Budget Ranking Member Chris Van Hollen that gives hardworking middle class Americans tax relief while eliminating tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy to pay for it. The plan gives a $2,000 tax cut to middle class families to make sure they benefit from the growing economy but ends tax breaks that reward financial speculation instead of work.
“One week into the new Congress and Speaker John Boehner’s real priorities are already showing through,” said Josh Schwerin of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Apparently House Republicans only like tax relief if it’s for their millionaire friends and special interest backers, not for hardworking middle class families. Speaker Boehner owes the American people a vote because the American people want an economy that works for every American, not just the wealthiest few.”
