With a little over a month before Election Day, a new poll from the DCCC shows Shelli Yoder and “Tennessee Trey” Hollingsworth in a virtual tie in the open seat race in Indiana’s 9th District.
Yoder has now been on television with her first ad, “Savings,” for two weeks, which she launched only a week after millionaire Trey Hollingsworth went up on air himself. “Tennessee Trey” has put in more than $2,500,000 of his own massive fortune, and while only seven people in all of Indiana donated to him, Trey’s father is singlehandedly funding a super PAC that has spent $500,000 this year attacking Trey’s rivals and has run false ads against Shelli.
Bolstered by gains among Independents and moderate Republicans, Yoder has closed the gap with “Tennessee Trey” and the race is now within the margin of error (42-44).
Highlights of the poll:
- Yoder has made this Republican-leaning district a competitive race and a possible flip for Democrats
- Yoder has a +15 net favorable rating
- Hollingsworth, on the other hand, has seen his negatives increase while his positives have remained flat
This poll comes as Hoosier racewatchers have described the race as “neck and neck,” admitting that Hollingsworth has a lot of work to do if he wants to overcome being labeled a carpetbagger by his fellow Republicans during his contested primary.
