| Non-partisan race rater Cook Political Report just shifted their prediction for Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District to “Toss Up” as Lindsay James continues to build momentum.
In part, Cook writes:
- Democratic state Rep. Lindsay James continues to benefit from a rough political environment for Iowa Republicans, with some polling even showing Democratic Senate nominee Josh Turek beating Rep. Ashley Hinson in her home district.
- We’re moving this race from Lean Republican to Toss Up as polling continues to show James and former GOP state Rep. Joe Mitchell neck-and-neck.
- …Democrats are hitting Mitchell for his work for a real estate developer.
- …this no longer looks like a race where the GOP has a clear edge, even in a district that Trump won by 10 points.
The ratings change comes on the heels of Sabato’s Crystal Ball also shifting their prediction for IA-02 to Toss-Up.
DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“Iowans are ready for change after years of being failed by Washington – and lobbyist Joe Mitchell will be more of the same. This race is a jump ball thanks to Lindsay James’ proven record fighting for Iowa and Mitchell’s record only working for himself.”
